Sarees is the oldest Indian traditional attire. It
is the only ethnic attire which is well-known for its elegance and rich look. It is worn by wrapping one end around the waist followed by
pleats for fullness and other end is draped over the shoulder. As India has a
diverse culture across different states, sarees as a versatile outfit can be
draped in different ways depending upon region, occasion and one way of
styling. Today we will share some famous draping styles from different Indian
states which today preserve the importance of Indian heritage.
- Gujarati Style Draping
This
type of draping style is mostly found in North Indian States including Gujarat,
Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Bihar. In this style,
pleats are made towards right, pallu is taken from back and brought over the
right shoulder and is spread across the chest while left edge is tucked on
waistline at the back.
- Pant Style Saree Draping
If you
want to give an interesting touch to a saree, then match up your saree with
pants or jeggings. This saree draping style is the latest trend for all young
ladies who always inspires towards the latest fashion trends. Choose a printed saree over solid pants or
vice-versa, start by making pleats and tuck them into the pants at mid-waist
while the other end can be draped on shoulder as a pallu in various ways.
- Nivi Style Saree Draping
This
saree draping style is considered as the traditional draping style. After ensuing basic method of draping a saree,
pallu is pleated and secured with pin or fancy brooch over the shoulder. Its
versatile style of draping represents the cultural heritage of India.
- Bengali Style Draping
Normally,
the look of Bengali style draping will be white in color and red border. Though it’s looks tad difficult, yet it’s quite
easiest one. This is a unique way of draping where wide box pleats are tucked
at front instead of normal short mid pleats.
- Coorgi Style Draping
This draping of saree is a unique style, where pleats are created at the back for free
movement of the legs. The pallu is wrapped around the front chest and brought
over the shoulder from the back securing the edge at side neckline.
- Oriya Style Saree Draping
This
saree draping style also reflects the tradition of Indian culture. Follow the same basic procedure for the lower
body and pin the pleated pallu on left shoulder. Take a corner of the pallu
bring it to front under your right arm and then pin it 5-6 inches below the
left shoulder.
- Kerala Style Draping
This
traditional saree draping style will have varieties of colors ranging from pure white to cream with gold border. Saree
consists of two piece cloth and named as mundus neriyathum.
- Rajasthani Style Saree Draping
This is
similar to Gujarati style draping but pallu is pinned to the back blouse
instead of tucking to the waistline.
